Mt Record – North Face.
The past couple of weeks has seen a series of small weather systems drop multiple 10cm dumps. It’s made for some ripping powder days at Red, and conditions in the local backcountry are now back at their best (certainly at higher elevations). I’ve been putting in a few days cat-skiing at Wildhorse, but with my season there now finished I’ll be focusing on ski-touring as I prepare for a Northern Monashees ski traverse in early April.

Yesterday morning – sunny, windless, minus 15 degrees, I got a couple of fresh lines down the North face of Mt Record in silky boot deep powder. It’s been a bit of a lean snowpack through most of the winter, but the cornice is now well formed, and the lines through the small trees on the face have now filled in enough for good skiiing.
